Substance Church partners with Manna Market, a ministry that rescues nutritious food from local retailers and makes it available to individuals and families. Today, Manna Market is one of Minnesota’s largest food distribution programs, helping thousands of people access food each week.
Our Partnership Story
Manna Market was founded in 2008 by YouthWay Ministries, a nonprofit community outreach organization. What began as outreach to families in a Blaine trailer park grew into a network of food distribution sites serving communities across the region.

In 2020, as one of Manna Market’s sites was preparing to close, Substance Church agreed to host the program for six months while a new location could be found. After just a few distributions, Substance Leadership made it clear that Manna Market had found a new home at Substance.
Only weeks later, the COVID-19 pandemic created unprecedented challenges for families across Minnesota. Substance Church provided the space and volunteers needed to keep food moving
to those who needed it. It quickly grew into a large scale operation, distributing thousands of pounds of food each week. When the pandemic ended, the need continued to grow. Instead of scaling back as originally planned, YouthWay Ministries turned over its youth center to another organization and focused fully on the mission of Manna Market.
Today
Manna Market and Substance Church continue to serve side by side, accomplishing far more together than either could alone.Last year, more than 130,000 visits were made to Manna Market at Substance Church. This impact is made possible through the generosity of volunteers and supporters committed to serving God and others. Substance Church provides the space that makes this ministry possible, covering significant operational costs to support the work.
